- Estate purchased by the Company in May 1803 from William Gosling for £10,500 comprising a house and some warehouses let to Charles Cooper; a large house and newly built warehouses, a counting house, vaults and yards let to Samuel Cortissos and Aaron Brandon; a new house with offices and yard occupied by [ ] Edwards; and the Sugar Loaf public house at 23 Great St Helen's. The East India Company originally intended to build a warehouse on the site, but decided instead to convert for its own use the premises formerly occupied by Cortissos and Brandon. Cortissos and Brandon's house was demolished and the Company's Clerk of the Works moved into Edwards' house. The Sugar Loaf was exchanged in March 1832 for a site in St Andrew Undershaft
