- Scope & Content:
- Estate at 12 Lower Thames Street near Lyons Quay, consisting of a house variously known as the Lyon and Key, Cowlings House or Bucklands House, and the adjoining ground and warehouses. The property was held in sixteen shares, each valued at £196 17s 6d since the Company intended to pay £3,150 for the entire estate. The Company managed to acquire fifteen of the shares in 1813: (a) L/L/2/1182--1183 One sixteenth held by the family of Charles Yorke deceased; one sixteenth held by the family of Sir Beauchamp Proctor deceased; one sixteenth held by William Cane: these shares were vested in Lord Strangford. It appears that the Company was unable to acquire one of these shares. (b)L/L/2/1184 Four sixteenth shares held by Emily Gore acquired by the Company for £787 10s. (c) L/L/2/1185-1190 Four sixteenth shares held by Harry Focke Spencer as an estate for life. The Company invested Spencer's share of the purchase money (£787 10s) in 3% consuls in the names of Thomas Glyn and the Company Treasurer and Accountant General on trust to pay Spencer a dividend for life. At his death, the capital was to be transferred to the reversioner of the estate in return for a conveyance of the property. (d) L/L/2/1191-1193 Two sixteenth shares held by John Lateward purchased for £393 15s. (e) L/L/2/1194 One sixteenth share held by Anthony Geledneki purchased for £196 17s 6d. (f) L/L/2/1195 Two sixteenth shares held by Stevens Dineley Totton, Provis Wickham and his wife Annabella, and Catherine Totton purchased for £393 15s.
