There are six surviving files containing correspondence, dating mainly from the 1930s and 1940s, about various aspects of British policy in the Middle East. The majority of the correspondence is between the Political Agent, Bahrain, and the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf.
There are several major topics discussed in the correspondence:
- disturbances which occurred in Bahrain in connection with events in Palestine and the foundation of Israel, 1945-1949 (IOR/R/15/2/795);
- issues around the establishment of the Arab League, 1944-1945 (IOR/R/15/2/796);
- the recognition of Transjordan as a fully independent state as a result of the Anglo-Transjordan Treaty 22 March 1946, (IOR/R/15/2/797);
- arrangements for a conference in Basra to study the military and economic problems of the Middle East and their effect on strategy, 1947-1950 (IOR/R/15/2/798);
- possible attempts to blow up British tankers in the Suez Canal, 1947 (IOR/R/15/2/799);
- collection of information on the Persian Gulf states as part of a review of Middle East economic and social policy prepared by the Middle East Secretariat of the Foreign Office, 1949-1950 (IOR/R/15/2/800).
