- File 33 Wireless/Telegraph
- Scope & Content:
-
The Wireless/Telegraph files of the Political Agency, Bahrain fall into two main groups.
The first group (IOR/R/15/2/1764-1768) concerns the work of the Wireless (later Radio) Station, Bahrain in the period 1926-50. The station was initially run by the Indo-European Telegraph Department (a department of the Government of India), but from 1931 responsibility passed to a public company, Imperial and International Communications Limited, which from 1934 became known as Cable and Wireless Limited. The papers cover matters of general administration, and two specific issues: the proposed supply of news telegrams to various bodies in Bahrain (IOR/R/15/2/1764), and the issue of licences for radio sets (IOR/R/15/2/1767).
The second group concerns the installation in 1934-35 (IOR/R/15/2/1770), and the upgrading in 1945 (IOR/R/15/2/1769) of the telephone line between Manama and Muharraq.
