The Establishment files of the Political Agency, Muscat provide general information about the composition of the Agency's staff during the period in question, including comprehensive Annual Returns of staff for the period 1933-47 (IOR/R/15/6/138-139). IOR/R/15/6/137 concerns proposals for the appointment of a British Agent at Salalah, the capital of the province of Dhofar, and IOR/R/15/6/142 concerns the recruitment of clerical staff for the Agency, in light of the transfer of control over the Persian Gulf Political Residency from the Government of India to the Foreign Office, and the independence of India and Pakistan. There are also two files concerning individual members of staff (IOR/R/15/6/135-136), and a file concerning revised foreign allowances (IOR/R/15/6/140).
