First performed by the Royal Shakespeare Company at the Aldwych Theatre, London, on 8 Jan. 1981, and revived at Wyndham’s Theatre, London, on 18 April 1984 following a transfer from Leicester. The original production won the Evening Standard Drama Awards Best Play of the Year. First American production as ‘Passion’ at the Longacre Theatre, New York, on 15 May 1983.
