- Title:
- Bob Cobbing: Hendon Teaching Notes ('The Arts Today' and 'Introduction to the Arts')
- Scope & Content:
-
Six exercise books containing teaching notes, with various loose sheets (particularly, poems for discussion). One exercise book is entitled 'The Arts Today' and the other five are entitled 'Introduction to the Arts'. One loose sheet is headed Hendon Poetry Society (dated 17 February, 1953).
A printed course outline for 'The Arts Today' (pasted in to one exercise book) records that it was a course of 24 lectures taught by Cobbing, beginning 3 October, 1958: 'The aim of this course is to show that contemporary trends in the various arts are all fundamentally linked.... The course will be illustrated by gramophone records; films; epidiascope; reproductions and original paintings; and readings of prose, poetry and drama'.
The file also includes a leaflet 'The Arts Today' (Finchley Public Library, 1962) including a subsequent course ('Painting Today') taught by Cobbing, together with a related set of autograph teaching notes, and further notes (numbered 1-37) beginning 'Artist as Prophet' (Collingwood).
