Original manuscript of [Introduction to Concrete Poetry] prepared by Cobbing and Mayer, in the form of 32 sheets (numbered 4-35) with cut-and-pasted text for subsequent reproduction.

The introductory paragraph notes that the booklet was prompted by 'the desire by both The Poetry Society and The Arts Council of Great Britain for a brief introduction to concrete poetry'. However, the text was not published, as noted in the Preface to the subsequent publication by Cobbing and Mayer, Concerning Concrete Poetry (Writers Forum, 1978), p. 3: 'This book was originally compiled in 1971 ... [and] was to have been sponsored by The Poetry Society and the Arts Council of Great Britain ... However, finally, the Arts Council offered no financial support and The Poetry Society's contribution proved to be insufficient.' Thus, the material in this file can be considered as a form of first draft for Concerning Concrete Poetry.
