The file comprises telegrams to and from the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf regarding matters relating to the administration and staffing of the Political Residency and Political Agencies in the Persian Gulf. Matters discussed in the file include:
- telegrams regarding leave arrangements for officers in the Persian Gulf;
- notifications of changes of personnel in secretarial positions;
- orders placed for supplies and replacement goods;
- gunboats and a floating dock ordered from the Admiralty by the Persian Government and arrangements for the training of Persian crews in their use. This correspondence is primarily between HM Minister at Tehran, the Admiralty and the Senior Naval Officer in the Persian Gulf;
- reports of unrest on the Trucial Coast including the murder of the cousin of the Shaikh of Hamriyah during a visit to Sharjah, and attacks on Abu Dhabi tribesmen by groups of raiders alleged to have come from Dubai;
- a visit paid by the Air Officer Commanding to Muscat to discuss military personnel stationed at Salalah and Masirah;
- an outbreak of cholera at Dubai;
- a proposed military handbook on Arabia and requests for the Political Agent at Bahrain’s assistance in arranging for naval vessels to undertake surveys of various coasts and beaches in the Persian Gulf;
- telegrams of congratulations sent by the Shaikh of Bahrain (Shaikh Salmān bin Ḥamad Āl Khalīfah) to King George VI and HRH Princess Elizabeth following the announcement of the birth of Prince Charles.
