- Title:
- File 4/4 IX Budget Estimates for 1947-48.
- Scope & Content:
-
The file contains the statement of budget estimates for the Political Agency, Bahrain for the financial year 1947-48 and associated financial statements and correspondence for the same period.
The correspondence is mainly between staff of the Political Agency, Bahrain, and the Political Residency in the Persian Gulf. There is also some correspondence from the Government of India.
The budget estimates cover the following areas of expenditure: pay of officers; pay of establishment; allowances, honoraria etc.; secret expenditure; other charges; and Dubai Hospital. Also included are detailed pay statements for officers and establishment; statement of special war expenditure; and statements of anticipated excesses and savings.
The correspondence includes covering letters; papers concerning a request for estimates of budget excesses under the heads of office allowance, central contract grant, and launch grant (folios 14-27); notification of closure of the Government of India's accounts (folio 47); and requests for confirmation of budget figures.
The date range gives the covering dates of the main items of correspondence. The earliest document in the file is a letter on folio 45r, dated 26 August 1938, which forms a reused folio for the copy letter on folio 45v. However, it is the letter on folio 45v (which is upside down) that is the actual filed correspondence item, dated by a Political Agency, Bahrain receipt stamp of 26 November 1947. The last dated item in the file is a Political Agency, Bahrain receipt stamp on the last item of correspondence, showing that it was received on 29 December 1948.
