Scope & Content:

The volume contains copies of enclosures to despatches from the Government of India Foreign Department to the East India Company Secret Committee.

The contents include papers relating to the Anglo-Persian War 1856-57, notably: the Persian [Iranian] Army’s siege of Herat and operations in Afghanistan; the appointment and military strategy of Lieutenant-General Sir James Outram as Commander of the Persian Expeditionary Force; and British naval and military operations in the Persian Gulf and Persian mainland.
