This part of the volume consists of a copy of an enclosure to a secret despatch from the Government of India Foreign Department to the Secret Committee, Number 34 of 1857, dated 19 June 1857. The enclosure is numbered 3 and is dated 18 June 1857.
The enclosure comprises The Calcutta Gazette Extraordinary, published Friday 19 June 1857, comprising ‘Notifications. Fort William, Foreign Department’: confirming ratification on 2 May at Baghdad of the Anglo-Persian Treaty of Peace signed at Paris on 4 March; listing British successes at Bushire [Bushehr], Borazgoon [Borazjan], Khooshab [Khushab], Mohamreh [Khorramshahr] and Ahwaz [Avhaz] during the recent conflict, between December 1856 and April 1857; praising the British military and naval commanders and forces; lamenting that Major-General Foster Stalker did not live to witness the successful completion of the war in which he played ‘so prominent and conspicuous a part’ (f 471).
