Scope & Content:

This volume consists of collections to India Political Despatches from the Secretary of State for India to the Government of India Foreign Department, numbers 5-11, dated 1-22 February 1866. The collections consist of papers forwarded with the Government of India’s Foreign Letters to the Secretary of State for India. The collections were compiled for information purposes for the Secretary of State for India to compose the answering Political Despatches, which are not included in the collections. There is more than one collection to some of the Political Despatches. Coll 5/1 and Coll 5/2 include some papers dated later than the corresponding Political Despatches.

Each collection includes a cover sheet, stating to which India Political Despatch it belongs, as well as to which India Foreign Letter the Political Despatch is in response to, and the subject of the collection.
