Scope & Content:

This volume consists of collections to India Political Despatches from the Secretary of State for India to the Government of India Foreign Department, dated 1866-67. The collections consist of papers forwarded with the Government of India Foreign Department’s Letters, and the Government of Bombay Political Department’s Despatches, to the Secretary of State for India.

The collections were compiled for information purposes for the Secretary of State for India to compose the answering Political Despatches, which are not included in the collections. There is more than one collection to some of the Political Despatches.

Each collection includes a cover sheet, stating to which India Political Despatch it is a collection, which Government of India Foreign Department Letter or Government of Bombay Political Department Despatch it is in response to, and the subject of the collection.

Foliation: this file consists of five physical volumes. The foliation sequence (used for referencing) commences at the first folio of volume one with 1 and terminates and the last folio of volume five with 723. These numbers are written in pencil, are circled, and are located in the top right corner of the recto side of each folio. The foliation sequence does not include the front and back covers or the leading and ending flyleaves of each volume. There is one foliation anomaly, f 74a.
