This volume is comprised of two parts (IOR/L/PS/10/812/1 and IOR/L/PS/10/812/2) on the construction and operation of the Khanikin [Khanaqin]-Hamadan-Enzeli [Anzali] Road, British Government expenditures toward its maintenance, and the desire of Richards, Thynne & Company Limited [Richards, Thynne & Co Ltd] to obtain a concession for motor transport in Persia [Iran].
The main correspondents include: the General Officer Commanding Mesopotamia [i.e. Iraq]; the War Office; India Office; Secretary of State for India; the Foreign Office; Sir Percy Cox [as Britain’s Acting Minister in Tehran]; the Department of Overseas Trade; Sir George Nathaniel Curzon [as Acting Secretary, and later Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs]; Arnold Talbot Wilson [as Acting Civil Commissioner in Mesopotamia]; and Richards, Thynne and Company Limited.
The volume also includes a copy of the Stanford Geographical Establishment’s map of the existing railways, projected railways, and main roads in Persia and Mesopotamia, together with a series of additional roads connecting Kasr-i Shirin [Qasr-i Shirin] to Senna [Sahneh], Tabriz, Resht [Rasht], and Meshed [Mashhad] marked in blue pencil on the map (folio 35r).
Each part includes a divider which gives the subject and part numbers, the year the subject file was opened, the subject heading, and a list of correspondence references contained in that part by year. This is placed at the back of the correspondence.
