Part I (here designated chapters 1-7) of a complete typescript entitled 'The Illuminated River', with corrections, additions and annotations by hand.
The title at the head of the first page, 'The Illuminated River', was eventually given to the opening chapter of Part III (designated chapter 32 in The Drought), replacing an earlier title for this chapter: see Add MS 88938/3/5/4, where the word 'White' in 'The White River' is struck-through and replaced by 'Illuminated'.
