ff. 84v-195v: Hosteller’s register of the abbey of Bury St Edmunds.
ff. 196r-197v: William de Montibus (d. 1213), Poeniteas Cito (I Urge You to Repent).
The manuscript contains later additions:
ff. 3r-4v: A list of citations including references to the De Civitate Dei (The City of God) of St Augustine (b. 354, d. 430) (f. 3v), and including the heading ‘De sacrificiis’ (f. 4v).

Dimensions: ff. 5r-83r: 255 × 170 mm (text space: 185/190 x 105/110 mm); ff. 84r-195v: 255 x 170 mm (text space: 165/175 x 105/110 mm).
Foliation: ff. 199 ( + 4 unfoliated paper flyleaves at the beginning + 4 at the end).
Binding: British Museum/British Library in-house: gold-tooled and blind-stamped brown leather; Cotton's arms gold-stamped on the upper and lower covers, the spine inscribed in gold: 'HISTORIA etc'. Rebound in March 1865.

? John Dee (b. 1527, d. 1609): mathematician, astrologer, and antiquary: added the astrological sign of Jupiter may perhaps have been added by him (f. 1r), see Tite, The Early Records (2003), pp. 15 (n. 97), 258.
Sir Robert Bruce Cotton (b. 1571, d. 1631), 1st baronet, antiquary and politician: cited in Cotton's catalogues (see Tite, Early Records (2003), pp. 122-23); table of contents written by his librarian Richard James (f. 2r); his pressmark on f. 2r; his binding instruction on f. 3r; his arms (front outside cover).
Cotton’s collection was augmented by his son, Sir Thomas Cotton (b. 1594, d. 1662), 2nd baronet, and his grandson, Sir John Cotton.
Sir John Cotton (b. 1621, d. 1702), 3rd baronet: bequeathed the entire Cotton collection of books and manuscripts to trustees ‘for Publick Use and Advantage’, 12 and 13 William III, c. 7. Formed one of the foundation collections of the British Museum in 1753.
