Binding: British Museum/British Library in-house. Rebound in 1955.

Sir Robert Bruce Cotton (b. 1571, d. 1631), 1st baronet, antiquary and politician: the table of contents written by Richard James (d. 1698), antiquary and Cotton's librarian (f. 1r); the pressmark 'Claudius D V' written by James (Nero C VII and Claudius D V are the same manuscript (f. 1r)); the pressmark 'Nero C VII' written by a different hand (f. [iii] verso); cited in Add MS 36682 (see Tite, The Early Records (2003), p. 134).
?James Ussher (b. 1581, d. 1656), Church of Ireland archibishop of Armagh and scholar: borrowed by him from Cotton c. 1634 (see Tite, The Early Records (2003), p. 134).
?William Laud (b. 1573, d. 1645), archbishop of Canterbury: borrowed by him from Cotton c. 1634 (see Tite, The Early Records (2003), p. 134).
?George Abbot (b. 1562, d. 1633), archbishop of Caterbury: borrowed by him from Cotton before 1633 (see Tite, The Early Records (2003), p. 134).
Godfrey Wildbore (fl. c. 1656): borrowed by him from Cotton in 1656 or 1657 (see Tite, The Early Records (2003), p. 134).
Cotton’s collection was augmented by his son, Sir Thomas Cotton (b. 1594, d. 1662), 2nd baronet, and his grandson, Sir John Cotton.
Sir John Cotton (b. 1621, d. 1702), 3rd baronet: bequeathed the entire Cotton collection of books and manuscripts to trustees ‘for Publick Use and Advantage’, 12 and 13 William III, c. 7. Formed one of the foundation collections of the British Museum in 1753.
