The Deck Log covers the voyage to Madras and Calcutta (Captain Henry Cleaver Chapman): 7 June 1830, Downs; 17 September 1830, Madras; 12 October 1830, Calcutta; 4 January 1831, Kedgeree; 8 March 1831, St Helena; 12 May 1831, Downs.
The Deck Log includes a list of the ship's company (folio 164).
The Deck Log contains daily entries in seven columns: H [Hour], K [Knots], F [Fathoms], Courses, Winds, Weather, and Remarks; when the ship is at anchor, the entries consists of remarks only. The logs provide navigational information, notes of sightings of other vessels, and general remarks.
The Deck Log includes entries concerning births at sea (folios 178 and 180); deaths; an incident of mutinous behaviour (folio 193); the passage of troops (e.g. 62nd Regiment, 1830); and conveyance of military personnel and stores.
The record is part of a volume containing three separate log books: Eaton: Journal, Richard Heathfield, Chief Mate, 1712-14 (folios 4-162, IOR/L/MAR/B/106B); Recovery: Deck Log, 1830-31 (folios 163-247, IOR/L/MAR/B/106C); and Recovery: Deck Log, 1832-33 (folios 248-338, IOR/L/MAR/B/106D).
