1. ff. 1-18. ‘Overture: Festal Day’, for orchestra, op.23; [1942]. Full score, in ink. ‘Composed as a tribute to Dr Ralph Vaughan Williams on his 70th Birthday’ (f. 1). Subsequently entitled ‘Birthday Overture’ in the composer’s recording of the piece.
2. ff. 19-69. ‘Fantasia on Soviet Themes’, for orchestra, op.24; [1942]. Full score, in black and blue ink. ‘Dedicated in affectionate homage to Madame Agnes Maisky, for so long the gracious representative of the Soviet People, as a humble tribute to whom this work is designed.’ (f. 20). Published Novello, 1944.
