1. ff. 1-28. ‘Concert Overture for an Occasion’, for orchestra, op.74; [1971-72]. Sketches (ff. 2-3) and draft short score, in pencil. Written to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Royal Academy of Music. Dedicated ‘To the student orchestral players of the R.A.M.’ (this dedication does not appear on the present score).
2. ff. 29-83. ‘Concert Overture for an Occasion’. Arrangement by the composer for wind orchestra; [1985]. Full score, in ink. With a typewritten list of corrections to the score and parts, dated 3 Apr. 1985 (f. 31).
3. ff. 84-103. ‘The Liverpool Overture’, for orchestra, op.76 [listed as op.77]; [1973]. Commissioned by the Liverpool Trades Council for their 125th anniversary. Preliminary notes (ff. 85-9) and transcriptions of sea shanties from Shanties from the Seven Seas, ed. S. Hugill (Routledge & Kegan Paul, 1961). The opus no. ‘76’ is given on the preliminary notes.
4. ff. 104-35. ‘The Liverpool Overture’. Draft short score, in pencil.
