NOTES OF SERMONS etc., probably by Sir Henry Yelverton, Attorney-General (d.1629); early 17th cent. Partly autograph. Similar notes by Yelverton were used for Certaine Godly and Learned Sermons: preached by . . . Ed. Philips . . . in Saint Saviors in Southwark . . . taken by the pen of H Yelverton, 1605 (STC 19853). Includes sermons by: Richard Vaughan, Bishop of Chester 1597-1604, ff. 30, 30b; 'Mr Felton' (Nicholas Felton?, Bishop of Ely 1619), f. 35b; 'Abbot' (George Abbott?, Archbishop of Canterbury 1611), ff. 35b, 36; 'Doctor Favor', probably John Favour, LL.D. 1592, Prebendary of York 1616, f. 49; 'Mr Goodwyn' (William Goodwin?, Dean of Christ Church, Oxford, 1611-1620), ff. 49; and 'Doctor Kinge' (John King?, D.D. 1601, Bishop of London 1611-1621), ff. 61, 62. Also included are notes of the speeches of the Lord Chancellor and the King at the opening of Parliament, 19 March 1604 (in which Yelverton represented Northampton), ff. 72, 73. On f. 95b is a list of the Lords who sat at the trial of Philip Howard, Earl of Arundel, in 1589.
Paper; ff. ii + 96. Octavo. Early XVII cent. Not listed in CMA. The spine and front cover of the former 17th-cent. vellum binding are now ff. i and ii. The number on the front cover '(16)' may be from an old numeration sequence (see Introduction); also numbered '16' in pencil on the spine.
