WALSINGHAM CORRESPONDENCE: transcripts of the correspondence of Sir Francis Walsingham during his embassy to France; Aug. 1570-Sept 1572. Partly Latin, French and cipher. Copies, temp. Charles I. Printed with correspondence covering all his missions, 1570-1573 and 1581, in Sir D. Digges, The Compleat Ambassador, 1655, pp. 1-265, from transcripts in Digges' collections. Many letters are calendared in SPF from originals at the PRO; the originals of others are among the Cotton MSS. Other early 17th-cent. transcripts are: Add. MSS. 4103 and 30156; Harley MS. 260, ff. 1-45; Stowe MS. 147, ff. 212-341b. More are noticed in Read, Walsingham, i, 1925, p. 90, n.3. The material for Dec. 1571-Feb. 1572 (Digges, pp. 163-168) is out of date order in the present MS., ff. 466-476b.
