DIGEST OF SCOTS LAW in seven books; 16th cent. (after 1555, see f. 72b). Latin and Scots. See The Practicks of Sir James Balfour of Pittendriech, ed. P. G. B. McNeill, Stair Soc., xxi, xxii, 1962, 1963, vol. 1, p. lviii and n.47, where the present MS. and another, National Library of Scotland Adv. MS. 25.4.11, are noticed. McNeill also suggests that the digest was possibly first compiled for the commission of 1469 for the reduction of the 'Regiam Majestatem' and other 'Auld Laws' into a single volume, and that it was the basis of Balfour's Practicks (first published 1754). The contents (alphabetical index, ff. 107-111) are: (a) Prologue, substantially as in Regiam Majestatem . . . , ed. T. M. Cooper, Stair Soc., xi, 1947, p. 57. f. 1; (b) Book 1. 'De actionibus civilibus'. ff. 60-88b; (g) Book 6. 'De causis criminalibus'. ff. 89b-100b; (h) Book 7. 'De re militari'. ff. 101b-106.
