MODUS ET FORMA TENENDI PARLIAMENTUM, Book I, by Henry Elsynge the elder, Clerk of the Parliaments, completed 3 May 1625, see his autograph draft, Harley MS. 1342, f. 157. Partly Latin and French. Contemporary copy. First printed as The ancient method and manner of holding parliaments in England, 1660. Other copies are Add. 26642, Egerton MS. 3366, Harley MS. 4273, Hargrave MSS. 228, 255, 278, Lansdowne MSS. 489, 491, 492 and Stowe MS. 1057. The existence of Book II of Elsynge's work, begun in Sept. 1625 (Harley MS. 1342, f. 158) and long thought never to have been completed, was demonstrated by C. S. Sims, Expedicio Billarum Antiquitus: An Unpublished Chapter of the Second Book of 'The Manner of Holding Parliaments in England', International Commission for the History of Representative and Parliamentary Institutions, Studies, no. 16, Louvain, 1954.
