SPEECHES OF SIR NICHOLAS BACON, LORD KEEPER; 1558-1579. Copies, late 16th cent. Numerous other copies of Bacon's speeches are extant: most of the items in the present MS. occur in Harley MS. 398, a manuscript formerly owned by Sir Christopher Hatton. Probably presented by Anthony Bacon (d.1601), son of Sir Nicholas, to Sir Christopher Yelverton, late 16th cent., see binding.

Incorporated in the text (ff. 7b-8) is the enabling speech to the Speaker of the House of Commons; 25 Jan. 1559. The enabling speech is printed in Hartley, pp. 40-41, from Harley MS. 5176.
