STEFANO INFESSURA, 'DIARIA RERUM ROMANORUM'; 1303-1494. Latin and Italian. Copy, late 16th? cent. Beg. 'Pontificalmente et dissegli piglia tesauro quanto tu vuoi.' Ends 'per andare ad campo ad ostia'. The full version begins in 1294, but 'class 1' begins in 1303 and this MS. has a note 'manca il principio'. The MS. is used in O. Tommasini's critical edition of the 'Diario' in Fonti per la Storia d'Italia, Istituto Storico Italiano, v, Rome, 1890 (see p. xxv, etc.). It belongs to 'class 1' of the MSS. of Infessura (op. cit., pp. xxvi, xxvii), which includes Add. MSS. 8433 and 26802, and generally coincides with the class of MSS. which are the more valuable by reason of containing the readings favourable to the popular cause and that of the Colonna, which are corrupted and often altered in other MSS. Add. MSS. 8431, 8432 and 8434 belong to the second class and are favourable to the Orsini party. The 'Diario' occurs as follows in BL Add. MSS.: 8431, ff. 1-294b (17th cent.); 8432 (17th cent.); 8433, ff. 1-239 (incomplete, ends 'Magnum Turcum in Constantinopoli mortuum esse', op. cit., p. 294; 17th cent.); 8434, ff. 1-193b (17th cent.); 26802 (17th cent.). For extracts from the 'Diario' relating to the election of Pope Innocent VIII see below Add. 48073, f. 162.
Paper; ff. i + 137. Sm. folio. Late XVI? cent. One hand throughout. Covers and spine of original vellum binding. Numbered '76' on spine, once on the fragment of a label.
