Paper; ff. vi + 175. Contemporary pagination, cited in contents list, 1-345 (to f. 174b). 17th-cent. foliation from f. 5. Folio. Early XVII cent. One hand throughout, including contents list, which is the main hand of Add. 48075, and also occurs in Add. MSS. 48120-48121. The aspect of the script of art. 3 and of the contents list on f. 2 is different from that of the rest of the volume, as a thinner pen and more cursive ductus are employed. Closer comparison of letter-forms would, however, suggest that the same scribe is at work throughout: art. 3 and f. 2 perhaps represent his work at a later date, and this phase of his hand is found in Add. 48075. Inscription, 'D Anto d oratio d Anto da sangallo Tomo viio', possibly a reference to the family of Antonio da San Gallo, architect, of Florence and Rome (d.1546), f. 1: a similar inscription occurs in Add. 48075, f. ii. Orazio, son of Antonio, sold his father's antiquities and palace in and soon after 1549; Orazio's son, also named Antonio, sold his family's collection of designs to the Grand Duke of Tuscany in 1574. It is possible that the copies in the present MS. and 48075 were made from volumes formerly in the possession of this family. See G. Clausse, Les San Gallo, ii, 1901, pp. 417-419. Formerly a vellum binding over boards. The spine from this binding is mounted in the volume, f. i. Spine inscribed 'Libro de Conclavi po 1o' and '80'.
