1. ff. 1-47. Abstracts from muster certificates made and annotated by Robert Beale; 1573-1574. Muster certificates were returned to the Council, of which Beale was Clerk. The extracts include totals of available men, arms, etc., for the various counties and boroughs. Table of contents at ff. 1-6. For a discussion of the muster, see L. Boynton, The Elizabethan Militia 1558-1638, 1971, pp. 13-50.
2. ff. 53-66. Abstracts from county muster certificates for horses and geldings, made and annotated by Robert Beale; 1574. Table of contents, f. 53b.
3. ff. 77-86b. List of records, 1569-1574, in the muster chest; 1573-1574. A supplementary list by Beale, f. 82, includes one certificate for 1574 used for artt. 1, 2 above.
4. ff. 88-96b. Accounts of the Ordnance and Armoury offices for equipment provided for twenty-four ships fitted out at Chatham; 1 June 1574. The accounts name the ships, but the details of men and equipment are expressed as totals for the whole fleet.
