'RECUEIL DES ROYS DE FRANCE, LEURS COURONNE ET MAISON' by Jean du Tillet (d.1570), Sieur de la Bussière, greffier of the Parlement of Paris and secretary to Henry II of France; c. 1565-1566. French. Copy, late 16th cent. The 'Recueil' was probably completed c. 1565-1566 (Charles IX, to whom it is dedicated, is mentioned as being 15 years old, f. 120) and first published with a later preface, not by Tillet, Paris 1580. The present text agrees broadly with this edition, except that the account of Clodomir of Orléans (ff. 19b, 20) precedes that of Thedebald of Austrasia instead of following it; ff. 12, 12b duplicate part of the text.
Paper; ff. iii + 227. Contemporary foliation. Folio. Late XVI cent. One French hand throughout. Late 16th-cent. French vellum binding, gilt-stamped and tooled, with modern leather tags. Fragment of coloured label, 'R', on front cover, f. i. Titled, and numbered '140', on spine.
