TRANSCRIPT OF THE 'VETUS CODEX' or 'Placita Parliamentaria', otherwise called the 'Black Book of the Tower' (now PRO C 153); 1643. Latin and French. The 'Vetus Codex' is a 14th-cent. transcript of the rolls of Parliament, 18-35 Edw. I and 14 Edw. II. William Ryley, Clerk, and later Keeper, of the Records at the Tower, attested the present copy, 22 July 1643
(f. 557), and published the 'Vetus Codex' as Pleadings in Parliament . . . , 1661; an edition superseded by the Rotuli Parliamentorum . . . , Record Commission, 1767 etc. On the 'Vetus Codex' and its relationship to the rolls of Parliament see H.
