SURVEYS OF MUSTERS of the wards of London and the suburbs, containing names of captains, devices on their ensigns and numbers of soldiers mustered; 1588, 1599. Collected and written calligraphically by Richard Robinson, leatherseller and scrivener, 7 Sept.-6 Oct. 1600, see ff. 1b, 9b. Autograph; author's signature and mark, f. 9b. Included are: (a) A short memorial of the employment of the musters and the Armada battle, 1588, with celebratory Latin verses by G. Buck (Sir George Buck?, Master of the Revels 1608), beg. 'Dum parat Austriata tela Ultricia Ales'. ff. 4b-6; (b) Account of the symbolism of blazon. ff. 7b-8b; (c) 'The Collector or Wryter his Peroration or Conclusion'. ff. 9-9b. The surveys and Buck's verses were included in Robinson's 'Archippus', the second part of a curious tripartite work, 'Eupolemia, Archippus and Panoplia', addressed to James I, 1602-1603, Royal MS. 18 A.LXVI, ff. 27-29, on which see R. B. McKerrow in Gentleman's Magazine, ccc, 1906, pp. 277-284, and G. M. Vogt in Studies in Philology, xxi, 1924, pp. 629-648. Other examples of Robinson's work are Add. 48116, art. 5, and Cotton MSS.
