COLLECTION OF STATUTES, 4 Edward III - 4 Henry V; mid 15th cent. French. Lacks the beginning and end. The manuscript commences (f. 1) at cl. 12, 4 Edw. III, 'our mairs Bailiffs . . . ' and ends (f. 152b), statute 2, 4 Hen. V, cl. 4 'si null' doigne ou'. A folio is missing between ff. 1-2, with loss of text for 5 Edw. III. All the items are printed in Statutes, i-ii. The manuscript generally accords with the printed edition. However, a small amount of material in Statutes does not occur in the present text, in particular the entries for 17 Edw. III. Some items are also in a different order in the MS., notably statute 2, 38 Edw. III, which appears at the end of the entries for the reign (ff. 60b-61b), having been omitted in the proper sequence.
Vellum; ff. 152. 230 x 165mm. Mid XV cent. One English charter hand throughout. Gatherings of 8 from f. 2 (i lacks 1 with loss of text); f. 1 is the final leaf of a missing quire, with catchword. Catchwords throughout, including
f. 152b, indicating a missing quire at the end. Penwork in red and blue. Initials in red, blue, green and gold at the beginning of each statute. Large initial and border in red, blue, green and gold to the first page for each reign (ff. 62, 111b, 140). Damage throughout, probably by rodents, with loss of text ff. 2-9. 20th-cent. binding, boards with leather spine.
