Diary entries, handwritten and typewritten, giving a personal account of Hunter-Weston’s daily life after the armistice until the end of his military career and assumption of duties as a Member of Parliament. Includes summary of contents of all 6 volumes, giving details of Hunter-Weston’s movements and activities throughout the War. Glued into the diary are many letters, drawings, photographs, newspaper cuttings and other mementos including bank notes issued during the German occupation of Belgium, coupons for bread, sugar and luxury tax exemption for military personnel, Christmas card drawing by Gilbert Holiday and an embroidered badge of the 8th Army Corps. A significant proportion of the material relates to the armistice and to liberation ceremonies and official visits to liberated towns attended by Hunter-Weston both before and after Armistice Day.
