Fourteen of these, dated 21 June 1622-26 Sept. 1628, were sent to Trumbull while a Fellow Commoner at Magdalen Hall, Oxford, and the rest, 1 July 1617 and 27 Aug. 1629-12 Nov. 1634, were addressed to him variously at Sedan, Paris and London. a. ff. 61-75. Exercises and themes, etc., of Trumbull while a student at Oxford; 1623-1624. Latin and Greek. Imperfect. A single gathering (ff. 61-67) comprises several themes in Latin prose, of which the first is headed with the date of Dec. 1623. The remaining leaves, which are of the same stock, contain part of a commentary on Horace's Odes, Book I (xi-xxxv only), that carries (f. 67) the date 1624 jotted in a different ink at the end. Formerly Add. 16/41.
b. ff. 76-97. Manual of French grammar; circa early 17th cent. Imperfect. Partly French. This work, which carries marginal annotations in a different hand, may have been written for the instruction of the younger Trumbull. It is mainly comprised in two sewn gatherings formed of a single stock of paper, the smaller (ff. 76-82), being found inserted loose in the Italian commonplace-book below, Add. 72462-72464. Formerly Add. 19(19) and Add. 24(4).
