1. ff. 22-45. Samuel Pepys: 'The Pursers Employ Anatomized . . .'; 1 Jan. 1665/6. Copy. This proposal for reformation of pursers is framed as a letter to Sir William Coventry, one of the Navy Commissioners. Tipped in towards the end (ff. 40, 41) is a bifolium comprising an abstract in another hand. For an autograph version of the tract see Lansdowne MS 253, ff. 242-245v. Single sewn gathering, measuring 305 x 193mm. From Add. 19/26.
2. ff. 46-62. Draft of a proposed treaty of Louis XIV with Charles II; Whitehall 2/12 Feb. 1671/2. French. Scribal fair copy in a French hand, with extensive revisions in another. The ten main provisions, by which Louis promises payment of three million livres in return for naval assistance against the States General, are followed (ff. 55-56v) by two 'Articles Secretes', etc. The documents are subscribed (ff. 54v, 56v) with the names of the French Ambassador, Charles Colbert, and of the Cabal, and are dated from Whitehall. Two gatherings of eight and six leaves, measuring 328 x 212mm, sewn separately with green and white silk ties, all contained within a paper wrapper. Formerly Add. 14/68.
3. ff. 63-71. Instructions for Arthur Capell, 1st Earl of Essex, as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland; 12 July 1672 and 22 Sept. 1675. Copy, with marginal annotations, subscribed by Henry Coventry, Secretary of State. Single gathering measuring 297 x 190mm. Formerly Add. 11(a).
4. ff. 72-82. Jean Giraud, French consul in England: Account, as 'Lieutenant de l'Introducteur', of the reception in Paris of the English Ambassador, Ralph Montagu, later 1st Duke of Montagu; circa Sept. 1676. French. Single folded gathering measuring 338 x 210mm. Formerly Add. 13/63.
