TRUMBULL PAPERS. Vol. CCXXXVIII (ff. 145). Political poems and satires, etc.; circa 1609-circa 1735, n.d. Partly French. Partly printed. Most of the pieces are datable to the reigns of William III and Anne, and several (ff. 38, 42, 68, 86-89 and 114) carry dockets in the hand of Sir William Trumbull. The arrangement is largely chronological. From Add. 17, 18, and D/ED F19. As follows:
1. ff. 1-129. Poems, ballads and satires, etc., mostly political; circa 1609-circa 1735, n.d. Partly printed. The writers include William Cartwright (f. 27), Lord Dorset (f. 28, 68), Sir Fleetwood Sheppard (ff. 36, 78) and Nicholas Rowe (f. 94). Also included are copies of John Hepwith's 'The Caledonian Forest' (ff. 10-22v) and Andrew Marvell's 'The Loyal Scot' (ff. 30-32). The printed item is a broadside Hymn, To the Victory in Scotland, published circa 25 June 1719.
2. ff. 130-131v. Mrs – Randolph: 'On the much Lamented Death of the Incomparable Lady, The Honourable The Lady Oxenden. A Pindarique Ode. Made by Mrs Randall', beg. 'Ah 'tis too much relentless Fate'; n.d., circa 1685/1735. Printed as a pamphlet, [London?, 1735]. Copied in the same hand and on the same folio stock of paper as most of (3) below.
3. ff. 132-145. Poems on the death of Queen Mary II, etc.; 1694. Partly French. They include (ff. 132-137v) 'Mr Crown's Poeme on the late Queen', beg. 'The Winds the Ocean and the Glorious Sun'.
