TRUMBULL PAPERS. Vols. CCXXXVII-CCXXXIX. Miscellaneous verse, with some prose, from the Trumbull and Weckherlin papers; circa 1607-1735, n.d. Partly autograph and printed. Mostly in Latin, French, Spanish, Italian, German and Dutch. The material ranges in date from the time of William Trumbull the diplomat to the decade following the death in 1716 of Sir William Trumbull, from whom the vast majority of the pieces derives. Some items may originate from the papers of G. R. Weckherlin, though the bulk of those copied in his hand, with some of his own composition, are preserved separately in Add 72439 above. The collection is arranged in three broad divisions, viz.: (i) miscellaneous poems, including verses composed by and addressed to members of the Trumbull family, 1622-1675, n.d. (Add. 72478); (ii) poems, mostly satirical, on affairs of state, circa 1609-circa 1735, n.d. (Add. 72479); and (iii) verses, mostly in Latin, French and Italian, along with some epitaphs and prose items, 1609-1721, n.d. (Add. 72480). Formerly Add. 17, 18, and from Add. 70.
