TRUMBULL PAPERS. Vol. CCXXXIX (ff. 131). Miscellaneous verse and prose, mostly in Latin, French, Spanish, Italian, German and Dutch; 1607-1727, n.d. Mostly copies. The material derives from the papers of the Trumbull family from the diplomat down to William, son of Sir William, Trumbull. From Misc. XVIII, XLVIII, XLIX, and Add. 7, 15, 17-18, 20, 41, 70. As follows:
1. ff. 1-60. Verse and prose from the papers of the elder Trumbull and of G. R. Weckherlin; 1607-1636, n.d. Mostly Latin, French, Spanish, Italian, German and Dutch. The material, which mainly relates to persons and events in European history, includes pasquils, parodies, epitaphs and lapidary inscriptions, together with some prophecies and miscellaneous items in prose. Several of the documents are copied or docketed in the hand of William Trumbull the diplomat.
2. ff. 61-118. Verse and prose from the papers of Sir William Trumbull; 1666-1707, n.d. Partly Latin and French. Much of the verse is political or topical, and includes epitaphs, lapidary and other inscriptions, with other verses in French. Several items are in the hand of, or bear dockets by, Sir William Trumbull.
3. ff. 119-131. Academic verses, in Latin, from the papers of William Trumbull, son of Sir William; 1724-1727, n.d. These mostly consist of carmina quadragesimalia by members of Christ Church, Oxford, 1724, and of prologues and epilogues for Westminster School plays, 1724, along with a series of verses recited at Election in 1727.
