1. ff. Poems written by Upward in Rouen; 1920-1924. Mostly autograph drafts and fair copies. Partly French. Preceded by a list on which Isherwood has awarded marks from A to D. Mostly intended for the unpublished collection 'The Sickle and the Coins'; annotated by Upward 'Virtually destroyed but kept for interest'. The notebooks at Add. 72689 C-T above contain further draft poems.

2. f. 'Mapperley Plains' by Christopher Isherwood; [1923]. Autograph fair copy. First published in M. Gilkes, R. Hughes and P. H. B. Lyon (eds.), Public School Verse, Vol. 3 (1923), and reprinted with an introductory note in Isherwood's Exhumations (London: Methuen, 1966). Followed (f. ) by four stanzas beginning 'Lost on a wold of dreams', in Isherwood's hand but annotated by Upward 'Don't know who wrote this'; n.d.

3. ff. Eleven poems by W. H. Auden; [1924-1926]. The last two, 'Cinders' and a fragment of 'Thomas Epilogizes' (last 16 lines only) are autograph, the rest are typewritten. All are published in Katherine Bucknell (ed.), W. H. Auden: Juvenilia (London: Faber and Faber, 1994), with an introduction explaining the textual tradition.
