Two catenae of the virtues of a Judge, each virtue commencing with the letter S, by [Sir Robert Heath]. Hologr. 18. Translations into English verse of selected epigrams and parts of the Liber Spectaculorum of Marcus Valerius Martialis, by Sir John Heath. Hologr. Imperf. An earlier draft, also in the autogr. of the author, is in Add. MS. 27343, the corrections of which are embodied in the present text. The translation of Book v, 62, is by [Sir] R[ichard] F[anshawe]. f. 175.
19. " Two sonnets translated into Latine " (so endorsement) but perhaps both Latin and English are paraphrased from a common source. The English poems are headed "Sonnet li. 4, p. 483," and " Sonnet li. 4, p. 481," and beg."O sweet and constant Hope " (24 lines), and " I am a Mariner to Love" (20 lines), apparently in the same hand as ff. 5-15. A comparison with a MS. of poems formerly belonging to George Thorn Drury, K.C
(Sotheby's sale-cat., 22 Feb. 1932, lot 2406), has proved artt. 2 (a-d), 6,
10, 14, 16, 19, and 20 (a) to be in the hand of Francis Heath, LL.D., who is probably the author of some of them. f. 244.
