Title:

HEATH AND VERNEY PAPERS : official and private papers of Sir Robert Heath, Chief Justice (b. 1575, d. 1649), and of his two eldest sons Sir Edward and Sir John; and estate papers of the Greville and Verney families, Barons Willoughby de Broke, with whom the Heaths were connected by the marriage of Margaret, daughter and heiress of Sir John Heath, to George Verney, 12th Baron. Sir Robert Heath was Solicitor-General 1621-1625, Attorney-General 1625-1631, Chief Justice of Common Pleas 1631-1634. Dismissed in the last-named year, he was later restored to favour and created King's Serjeant 1636, Puisne Judge 1641, and Chief Justice of King's Bench 1642, which post he held until his removal by Parliament in 1645. Of his sons, Edward, the eldest, was made a K.B. at the Restoration and took an active part in county administration in co. Rutl.
