LEEDS PAPERS. Vol. XLIII (ff. i+68). 'Modus tenendi Parliamentum apud Anglos', by Henry Elsynge al. Elsing, senior, Clerk of the Parliaments (d. 1636). English. Copy, 17th cent., in three hands, agreeing fairly closely with the first edition, The Ancient Method and Manner of holding of Parliaments in England, 1660, which is based with some additions on the original draft (now Harley MS. 1342) dated 1625. The text was re-edited by T. Tyrwhit in 1768 as The Manner of holding Parliaments in England. Other copies with a similar text to the present are in Harley MS. 4273, Lansdowne MSS. 489, ff. 11-39b, 491, ff. 2-15 (imperfect), 492, ff. 2-108b, Stowe MS. 1057, ff. 105-155b (imperfect), Hargrave MSS. 228, 255, ff. 1-64, 278, ff. 2-110b, Add. MSS. 26642 and 48052. Two quires (ff. 13-24b) have been misbound and should come after f. 6b. Owing to faulty copying the order of passages on ff.26-27b is confused. At the end (f. 68b) a fourth hand has added the epitaph on Thomas Wentworth, Earl of Strafford (d. 1641), printed in Calendar of State Papers Domestic, 1640-1641, 1882, p. 574, other copies of which are in Harley MSS.
478, f. 131b, 3511, f. 9, 6918, f. 68, Egerton MSS. 2421, f. 38b, 3383, f. 56, and Add. MS. 22602, f. 36.
