(1) Information brought by Sir John Bankes, Attorney-General, in the Star Chamber against John Bostwick, Henry Burton, William Prynne and others, accused of the publication of seditious libels; 11 Mar. 1636/7. Other copies are in Harley MS. 6867, ff. 136-143, and Add. Ms. 11308, ff. 97-109b. A fragment of an abbreviated version is in Add. MS. 29606, f. 62. ff. 1-15.
(2) 'A Narration. . . by way of a Lettre to a freind' of proceedings in the trial of Thomas Wentworth, Earl of Strafford, in Westminster Hall, and of his execution; 1641. A variant version, lacking the speech of George Digby, Lord Digby (2nd Earl of Bristol 1653), on 21 Apr. 1641 (ff. 54-55b), is in Add. MS. 30336 and was first printed as A Briefe and Perfect Relation of the Answeres and Replies of Thomas, Earle of Strafford, 1647. Lord Digby's speech was printed as The Lord Digby his last speech against the Earle of Strafford, 1641. Other accounts of the trial are in:- (a) Add. MSS. 15567, ff. 30-33, and 35838, ff. 163-177 (by the Duke of Manchester);-(b) Add. MS. 41688 (notes of the proceedings, 5-13 Apr. 1641);-(c) Harley MSS. 2233 and 4889, ff. 132-170, Add. MS. 25275, ff. 1-47 (articles of the impeachment and answers under examination);-(d) Lans. MS. 209, ff. 90-99b, and Add. MS. 47145, ff. 47-89b. On f . 56 is an epitaph on Strafford, on which see the description of Eg. MS. 3366, f. 68b. Owned by Sir Edward Osborne, 1st Bart. (see note on f. 57b). ff. 16-57.
(3) Two tracts relating to parliamentary proceedings in 1675:- (a) 'A Letter from a Person of Quality to his friend in the Country', against the Test Bill, probably by Anthony Ashley Cooper, 1st Earl of Shaftesbury. First printed with the same title in 1675. ff. 59-68b;-(b) Speech in the Lords by Shaftesbury, conceming the case of Dr. Thomas Sherley al. Shirley, differing in arrangement from the version in Harley MS. 5277, ff. 72-78, first printed in Two Speeches, 1675, pp. 2-16; 20 Oct. 1675. f. 69-72b. At the beginning (f. 58) is a note 'For Sir Oliver St George [1st Bart.], Janr. 2d. 1676/7. ff. 58-72b.
(4) 'A Letter to a Person of Quality in Holland': a tract on political affairs in England, critical of the activities of the 1st Duke of Leeds and Daniel Finch, 2nd Earl of Nottingham; 26 Dec. 1690, with a postscript (ff. 97b-107), 5 Jan. 1690/1 . Written in three hands. Imperfect (according to a contemporary pagination) by the loss of eight leaves after f. 103b. A note by the 1st Duke of Leeds on f. 73 attributes the work to Robert Ferguson, conspirator, 'with the assistance of ' Major John Wildman (knt. 1692). ff. 73-107.
(5) Letter from John Browne al. Brown, Surgeon-in-Ordinary to William III, to the 1st Duke of Leeds, containing comments on the report by the Lords Commissioners of the Great Seal on Browne's dismissal in 1691 from St Thomas's Hospital; circ. 1692. ff. 108-115.
