Hallam Papers. Vol. xi a. A diary, commencing in Henry’s second term at Trinity College, Cambridge, 1843. The first dated entry is for 5 February and the last is for 15 September that year in Munich. The diary is prefaced with an outline of his intentions and a view of his academic prospects. He refers to the Historical Debating Society which he founded and the meetings of ‘the Apostles’. In June 1843 he embarks on a tour embracing Antwerp, Brussels, Frankfurt, Würzburg and Bamberg., Berlin, Dresden, Prague and Munich. He is prompted to write a sonnet (f. 11) and has much to say on paintings in galleries.
