Eccles Bequest. Vol. X. Miscellaneous verse fragments; 1875-1894. Partly autograph, partly printed.
1. 'San Miniato'; 15 June 1875. Two twelve-line stanzas. Wilde was on a trip to Italy with Rev. Dr John Pentland Mahaffy, a tutor from Trinity College and William Goulding. Written after a visit to Florence on 15 June 1875. Revised in 1876. Wilde signed this copy at the end 'Oscar O'F. Wills Wilde'. From the Harold Nicolson Archive.
2. 'Rome Unvisited'; [1876]. Four stanzas from Part IV included in a letter, possibly to Aubrey de Vere. Published in The Mouth and Catholic Review, Sept. 1876. It was pasted into a presentation copy of Christopher S. Millard's (pseud. Stuart Mason) bibliography of Wilde facing p. 166 and removed 23 Feb. 1964.
3. 'Humanitad'; [bef. 1881]. Stanza from the poem. First published in Poems (1881).
4. 'Sonnet to Liberty'; [bef. 1881]. Revised by Wilde. Published in Poems (1881).
5. 'To Milton' [bef. 1881]. Extensive revisions and corrections by Wilde. Draft of a sonnet, with pencil notes written horizontally across the two inner pages. Published in Poems in 1881.
6. 'Impressions I. Les Silhouettes' and 'Impressions II. La Fuite de la Lune'; [1881].
7. 'Le Jardin' (recto) and 'Impressions I: La Mer' and 'Impressions II: Le Jardin' (verso); [circa 1881].
8. 'The Burden of Itys' [circa 1891]. Damage to the single folio affecting some of the words.
9. 'The Sphinx'; [bef. 1894]. Four fragments from the poem. 'The Sphinx' was started at the Hotel Voltaire, Paris, in 1874 in the presence of Robert Baldwin Ross, and published by Lane and Matthews in 1894 with an elaborate cover by Charles Ricketts in a limited eiditon of two hundred and fifty copies.
