WARREN DAWSON PAPERS. Vol. XL. Notebook of Sir Joseph Banks containing observations on natural history, commerce, mining, etc.; 1767-1768, n.d. Autograph. Most of the notes, which contain some dated entries, were made during Banks' tour of the West Country, Wales and Northern England, 1767-1768. At the end of the volume are mounted some slips bearing botanical observations (ff. 15-18). The manuscript, which was sold at Sotheby's 3 Aug. 1934, lot 1052 (part), was given to Dawson by Edmund Sykes Lamplough, Esq., see Dawson's catalogue, Add. 56311, item 44. W.D.44.
Paper; ff. ii+18+(2*, 6*, 10*, 10**). The notebook is disbound and the pages mounted: the book had been taken apart before it came into Dawson's possession, see Add. 56311, item 44. Original brown paper covers (ff. 1, 14); 196 x 127mm.
