5. ff. 23-49. 'Sarnia: an island sequence', for piano; 1940-1941. With typewritten quotations from Pomponius Mela (f. 26), Victor Hugo (f. 32) and Swinburne (f. 39) prefacing each section. Dedications are: 1. 'to Alfred Sebire' (f. 27); 2. 'to Michael in Guernsey' (f. 33), i.e. Michael Rayson; 3. 'to Mrs Mignot' (f. 38). Engraver's markings. A note at the end of no. 1 (f. 55b) states that it was rewritten from an earlier MS. (of circa 1906). The pieces were dedicated to Evlyn Howard-Jones, for whom Ireland had written the pieces in his student days. 355 x 262mm.
