WILLIAM MORRIS LITERARY MANUSCRIPTS. Vol. V (ff. iv + 52). Bellerophon at Argos (f. 1) and Bellerophon in Lycia (f. 20b) (C.W., vi, pp. 67-134 and 177-277). The two poems were originally conceived as one (see C.W., iii, p. xi), and they are treated as one (ff. 1-52) in this draft, although nearly all the material in the printed text is present. Both tales correspond with numerous minor variants to the printed text, with the exception of the beginning of what became Bellerophon in Lycia, which is longer and includes (ff. 23b-24) a poem, 'A sweet garden by the sea', later omitted. This, with some surrounding narrative, is printed by May Morris in C.W., vi, pp. xiv-xvi, from the slightly differing printer's MS. from which it was struck out, see Morris, i, pp. 425-429. On f. iii there is the same note of previous ownership as in 45300, f. i (q.v.). Red morocco binding by Katharine Adams.
Katharine Webb, d 1952 née Adams; bookbinder: Bound: bef. 1952.
