BLECHYNDEN PAPERS. Vol. LXXXV. Journal of Richard Humphrys (f. 1) al. Humphreys, of the 28th Regiment, afterwards Lieutenant (1776) in the same regiment and Captain (1795) in the Bengal Engineers, describing campaigns in Canada and the West Indies, beginning with the embarkation of the regiment at Cork in 1757, and including the captures of Louisburg, 1758 (ff. 5-12), and Quebec, 1759 (ff. 16b-38), the battle of Sainte Foye, 1760 (ff. 39b-41), and the expedition, 1761-1762, for the conquest of Martinique (ff. 46-50) and Havana (ff. 52-69b); 5 May 1757- 14 Aug. 1762. Imperfect by the loss of one leaf between ff. 4 and 5. At ff. 64-69b is a copy of the first thirteen articles of capitulation of the Spanish forces in Havana, 12 Aug. 1762, printed in full in R. Beatson, Naval and Military Memoirs of Great Britain from 1727 to 1783, iii, 1804, pp. 396-402, and at ff. 73-74b is an English version of a proclamation by Major-General James Wolfe before Quebec, 27 June 1759, printed in French in A. Doughty and G. W. Parmelee, The Siege of Quebec, ii, 1901, pp. 67-70. Notes on military matters, 8 Sept.-3 Oct. 1762, in a different hand, appear at ff. 71, 72. Paper; ff. xii + 74. Quarto. Binding of half leather, circ. 1825 (see flyleaves with watermark, ff. ii, x). Pasted on the board of the back cover was a leaf (now f. xii) bearing the inscription '[I]ndex of Letters Received [fro]m 1803/4 to 1809/10'. The title-page (f. 1) is mutilated. Probably acquired (see vol. XLII, f. 97b) by R. Blechynden at a sale in 1801 on the death of the author.
